Kids in the Garden

The on and off again rain showers have kept me out of the garden plot.  It's a good time to catch up on some gardening reading.

My friend Kathryn sent me this link about kids in the garden from Living the Country Life. Kids in the Garden

Our Melanie would probably love the idea of a pizza garden - but only if it were shaped like a pizza.

What do you do to get the kids interested?

I gave my Kid her own place to grow what she wants. This year she choose flowers. I also gave her couple of 4 gallon pails for her carrots.

She reads the seed catalogs with me in the fall/early winter, and she helps pick out what we should grow. Kid chose the red carrots this year-as well as the purple ones we've grown for a few years now-as well as the purple beans. For her, it seems to be all about colorful foods.

The extra benefit of this, has been that she is more willing to taste new veggies if we grow them. Since the house rule is if we grow it, we have to eat it, then she is more than willing to try new things. :)
